Stolen Mountain Bike Recovered Through GPS Tracking
In a recent development, the Duisburg Public Prosecutor's Office has requested a search warrant for a garage located in the Duisburg district of Hochfeld. The search, which took place on Thursday morning, led to the recovery of a stolen mountain bike, other bicycles, and tools.
The incident dates back to August 28, at 8:30 AM, when a 57-year-old man reported his mountain bike stolen from a basement room on Brauerstraße in Essen. Using an acoustic signal from the GPS tracker, the police located the garage where the mountain bike was likely stored.
Upon arrival at the garage courtyard, the 50-year-old man, who is the garage owner in Duisburg, was contacted by the Duisburg police. The man is now under investigation in connection with bicycle thefts, suspected of handling stolen goods and apparently having parking fees in the garage yard.
A check of the identification numbers of the recovered items revealed that some of them were linked to other theft cases. As a result, the responsible Criminal Commissioner 36 has initiated an investigation against the garage owner.
It is important to note that no information was provided about the make, model, or value of the stolen mountain bike. Additionally, no details about the suspect or the status of the investigation were disclosed.
The Duisburg Police Duisburg Press Office has provided contact details for journalists with questions. The investigation against the garage owner is expected to lead to charges of fencing.
The incident serves as a reminder to be vigilant about the security of personal belongings, especially high-value items like bicycles. It also underscores the Duisburg police's commitment to investigating and prosecuting cases of stolen goods and suspected criminal activity.
