Strategising Fantasy Premier League: Optimal Usage of Chips

In the world of Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the key to success lies in strategically using the eight available chips. Here's a breakdown of each chip and when to use them for maximum points.

The eight chips at your disposal are: 2x Bench Boost, 2x Free Hit, 2x Triple Captain, and 2x Wildcard.

Bench Boost

This chip allows players on your bench to score points for that Gameweek as well. A popular strategy is to use Bench Boost during double Gameweeks to cash in on multiple points or when your squad has favorable fixtures across the board. Another option is to use it on the opening weekend of the season to cover potential surprises.

Triple Captain

With Triple Captain, you can get triple points instead of double points for the chosen captain for that Gameweek. This chip can be particularly useful during double Gameweeks or when you have a high-scoring player in your squad.

Free Hit

Free Hit allows you to make unlimited transfers for a single Gameweek, with the squad reverting to its original lineup after that. This chip is often used to cover blank Gameweeks or to cash in on double gameweeks. Another good time to use Free Hit is if a number of high-performing players have easier fixtures for that Gameweek.

Wildcard

Wildcard is your ultimate weapon, allowing for a complete squad overhaul free of charge. It's best to use Wildcard when a number of players are injured, suspended, not starting, or consistently underperforming. Players in good form or facing weaker opponents can be targeted instead during the first half. The first Wildcard chip of the season is typically played within the first few Gameweeks, to cash in on strong performers early.

Stacking transfers can be beneficial, as it allows you to bring in desired players without facing a points penalty. Stacking up to five free transfers ahead of Gameweek 15, followed by five new ones in Gameweek 16, provides 10 free transfers over two Gameweeks, which could be helpful if the Wildcard in the first half of the season is played early. This strategy serves as a 'mini-Wildcard', allowing for changes during one Gameweek, followed by a Wildcard chip to overhaul the squad in the next.

In the 2025/26 season of FPL, players can use these eight chips over the course of the campaign. The best strategy for using the Wildcard chip to achieve the highest points is to play it just before a significant fixture swing or during international breaks, such as before Double Gameweeks or the African Cup of Nations, to optimize your squad by bringing in in-form players with favorable fixtures and to prepare for using other chips like Bench Boost effectively.

Remember, each player can only use one chip in a single Gameweek. Use these chips wisely, and you'll be well on your way to Fantasy Premier League glory!
