Streamer Kai Cenat Announces Plans for a $5 Million School Project in Nigeria
In an exciting development, Twitch star Kai Cenat has announced that his long-anticipated school project in Nigeria is now underway. The new school, scheduled to open in 2025, was initially promised during Kai's visit to Nigeria in March 2024, when he made a commitment to help the Makoko Children's Development Foundation School.
The school project, which aims to serve the students and community of Makoko better, is facing some challenges due to the difficult topography of the original location. As a result, the school has been moved from Makoko to Yaba, Lagos. Fanny Moral with Enko Education of South Africa and Chinedum Umeche, a partner with Banwo & Ighodalo of Nigeria, are working diligently on the school's development.
The goal is a $5 million investment to prepare for the new school's first day of classes. Kai Cenat has been a significant contributor to the project, having already donated more than $128,000 to equip the existing school with computers. To ensure all funds are accounted for and no individual can personally profit, the Kai Cenat Foundation Inc. has been established as a public charity.
During his recent Mafiathon 3 livestream, Kai provided new details about the school project. He announced that 15% of the revenue from his Twitch subscribers will go toward building the school in Nigeria, which could amount to roughly $750,000 if he reaches 1 million subscribers. The school project is being funded by donations from Kai's fans, and the current balances show over $1.1 million in donations.
The school project is not just about building a structure, but also about creating a fully operational institution. This includes careful consideration of construction, curriculum, and staff. Students from Makoko will continue to receive free education at the new location, while others traveling from other areas will pay tuition.
Over the past year, fans have repeatedly asked for updates on the school project. Kai's recent announcement has brought renewed excitement and anticipation for the school's opening in 2025. The school is intended to last for a long time, as stressed by Kai himself, who emphasized that constructing a fully operational school takes time.
The Kai Cenat Foundation will oversee all funds for the school project to ensure transparency and accountability. As the project progresses, updates and developments will be shared with the public. Stay tuned for more news on Kai Cenat's $5 million school project in Nigeria.
