In a surprising move, the Kansas City Chiefs have traded second-round pick Skyy Moore to the San Francisco 49ers. The trade, which occurred on Wednesday, comes as the Chiefs and several other teams, including the Browns and Saints, are scouring the running back (RB) market to bolster their backfields ahead of Week 1.

Moore, who was a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, had a rocky on-field relationship with franchise star Patrick Mahomes. Despite starting only 11 games in his three years with the Chiefs, Moore managed 43 receptions, 494 yards, and one touchdown. However, his poor performance in a preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks was a significant factor in his departure from Kansas City.

The Chiefs sent a seventh-round draft pick to the 49ers in exchange for a sixth-round pick. Moore's arrival in San Francisco is due to the suspension of Demarcus Robinson for three games. The 49ers, who are struggling for pass catching options, could provide a potential opportunity for Moore to impress.

Despite Moore's departure, the Chiefs still have Hall of Famer Travis Kelce on their roster. However, the team is reportedly one of three teams actively searching for a new running back. Potential running back targets for the Chiefs include Brian Robinson Jr., Breece Hall, Devin Singletary, Travis Etienne, Miles Sanders, and Jaleel McLaughlin.

The trade has left some uncertainty among Chiefs insiders. Jesse Newell, a Chiefs insider, expressed uncertainty about Mahomes' trust in Moore this year. Mahomes did not mention Moore when discussing the depth of the Chiefs' wide receiving room.

During his time with the 49ers, Moore has been training under the coaching staff led by head coach Kyle Shanahan. Shanahan was providing training updates during this period, and Moore's impressive 88-yard punt return touchdown against the Seahawks last week may have caught the coach's eye.

As the NFL season approaches, the trade of Skyy Moore from the Chiefs to the 49ers promises to add an interesting twist to the running back market and the two teams' respective seasons.
