Struggling Hamilton confronts F1 drought with Ferrari counting on Monza recovery
In the world of Formula One, the 2025 season is proving to be an exciting and unpredictable one. The reigning champion, Max Verstappen, is currently trailing Oscar Piastri by 104 points, a significant gap to close in the remaining nine races. Verstappen, however, remains optimistic, stating that his goal is to "just try to make the best of it."
Meanwhile, seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton is experiencing a crisis of confidence and poor results in his career. Hamilton, who is currently racing for Ferrari, has not won any Grand Prix races or achieved any podium finishes this season. After a disastrous campaign with Ferrari, Hamilton trails championship leader Piastri by 200 points.
Despite the setbacks, Hamilton expressed happiness about being a Ferrari driver, stating it was "really special" every time he comes to Italy. Alongside Charles Leclerc, Hamilton and Leclerc were greeted enthusiastically by fans at an event in Milan's famous Gothic cathedral. However, last weekend's Dutch GP was the lowest point of the year for Ferrari, with both Hamilton and Leclerc crashing out of the race.
On the other hand, McLaren is enjoying a successful season. The McLaren duo of Piastri and Lando Norris are currently battling for the drivers' crown, a title that McLaren has not won since 2008. Piastri leads his teammate Norris by 34 points with 309 points from 15 GPs. Piastri and Norris have won all but three races this season at the wheel of McLaren cars, outperforming the competition.
The favored teams in the current 2025 Formula 1 season include Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes, with notable drivers such as Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton showing strong performances. Cadillac is preparing for its F1 debut in 2026 with experienced drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, but they have not competed in 2025.
As the season progresses, it remains to be seen whether Verstappen can mount a serious challenge to Piastri or if McLaren will continue to dominate the competition. One thing is for sure, the 2025 Formula One season is shaping up to be an exciting and unpredictable one.
