Successfully Introduced: Novel 'Senior Cycling' Initiative in Borken County - More Dates Announced Soon
In the picturesque town of Gronau, the new senior cycling event made its debut, marking the beginning of a series of events aimed at promoting traffic safety. Dr. Kai Zwicker, the event's patron, warmly welcomed the participants, who consisted of twelve seniors, joining forces with local police officers.
Organised by the Traffic Directorate of the Circular Police Department Borken, this innovative concept is part of the preventive work of the circle and the police, and is set to take place regularly in the future. The event is designed to combine the joy of cycling with practical tips for accident prevention.
The route guidance is carefully planned, focusing on the current accident hotspots in the Borken circle area. Throughout the ride, police officers shared valuable insights on behaviour at intersections, roundabouts, bicycle path usage, and the importance of helmets, lights, and traffic-safe equipment.
Critical traffic situations were made tangible in practice and discussed with experts during the event. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of twelve to ensure individual attention for each cyclist.
The organisers have drawn a positive conclusion from the kick-off and cordially invite all interested seniors to note the upcoming dates in their calendars. The further dates for the year 2025 will be announced shortly, while the dates for the year 2026 are yet to be published by the police at the beginning of the coming year.
