Summer Vacation Reading Club offering literary experiences and creative crafts with books
The city library is excited to announce the launch of the Summer Reading Club, a fun and engaging programme for children and young people between the ages of six and 15. The club, which is part of the statewide programme "Lesen was geht," coordinated by the State Landesfachstelle for public library affairs and supported by the Bavarian Library Association, will run every Tuesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m., starting on August 5 and ending on September 9.
This year's Summer Reading Club is free for all participants, and registration can be done at the City Library in the Salzstadel or on Weilerstraße. Library employee Tanja Schepokat will provide initial reading tips and present book recommendations to help get you started.
Participants in the summer reading club will automatically enter the statewide special draw, and there's a special main prize to be won: a day at a theme park for the whole family. The closing event for the Summer Reading Club will take place on Thursday, September 25, at the City Library on Weilerstraße.
The creative club meetings offer a varied programme, including craft activities, comic drawing, book scavenger hunts, and self-designed film posters. Participation in the creative club meetings is exclusive to club members and requires registration on the City Library's media portal at www.medienportal.our website.
Library employee Putz, who referred to avid readers as "reading owls" who explore the world of books, praised the action of stocking up on books as a meaningful and creative way to inspire young people to read. He also encouraged children to read as a balance during holidays, recalling his own summer reading experiences.
In preparation for the Summer Reading Club, the book club shelf has been cleared for young readers to stock up on journals and reading material. Participants in the Summer Reading Club who read or listen to at least three books or comics during the holidays will receive a certificate.
