Supermarket parking lot fire sparked by explosives

Fire at Supermarket Parking Lot in Greifswald Under Investigation

A fire that broke out in the parking lot of a supermarket on Ernst-Thรคlmann-Ring in Greifswald is currently under investigation by local authorities. The incident occurred on the night of August 11th to 12th, 2025.

According to reports, the fire was first reported to the police at around 03:20. The blaze involved construction waste and Styrofoam panels, causing an estimated property damage of approximately 5,000 euros.

Two suspects, aged 18 and 33, were identified at the scene of the fire. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was likely caused by a firework.

The police are investigating the incident on suspicion of arson. The on-duty criminal investigation unit was called to the scene, and the fire department was able to extinguish the fire quickly.

Breathalyzer tests were conducted on the two suspects, with the 18-year-old registering a blood alcohol level of 1.09 percent, and the 33-year-old registering 1.70 percent.

However, no information was found about the identities of any persons involved or the blood alcohol levels detected by breathalyzer tests related to the fire in the parking garage of the supermarket in Greifswald on August 12, 2025.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available. The public is reminded to exercise caution when handling fireworks and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities immediately.
