Suspect allegedly sets apartment ablaze to eliminate roommates following lease non-renewal, according to police documents.

In a shocking turn of events, Jake Licoski, a 55-year-old man, was arrested in Horry County, South Carolina, on Sunday. Licoski is now facing multiple charges, including three counts of attempted murder, first-degree arson, and additional charges from a traffic stop.

The police responded to an apartment complex in Myrtle Beach around midnight Sunday due to a reported structure fire. The incident resulted in one victim being hospitalised, and the victims identified Licoski as the man who started the fire.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Licoski, but he tried to run away. In the ensuing chase, Licoski crashed, after which he was taken to the hospital. During his time at the hospital, Licoski gave a statement to the police.

While speaking with the victims, officers were able to find Licoski's car. Multiple firefighters reportedly told police they were informed by two of the victims that the man who started the fire was in a nearby car. When a firefighter attempted to speak with the man, he laughed and drove away.

The fire may have been started intentionally, according to the police report. The victims believed Licoski started the fire because they did not intend to renew their lease, leaving him without a place to live. Licoski is now also facing additional charges for the traffic stop, including failure to stop for blue lights and driving a vehicle with a broken seal.

After the man drove away, the firefighter reported this to the officer on scene. Licoski was later taken to J. Reuben Long Detention Center. The name of the police station that carried out the arrest of Jake Licoski is not publicly available.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of reckless actions and the importance of adhering to the law. The investigation is ongoing, and more details may be released in due course.
