In a significant development, a terror suspect was arrested in Düsseldorf's state parliament on Wednesday during a joint session of the Interior and Integration Committees. The arrest took place following an unusual encounter with a police patrol in Solingen's inner city on Saturday evening.

According to the interior minister, Herbert Reul, the suspect from Fronhof did not surrender to the police. Instead, the police officers immediately arrested the individual in Solingen. The minister made the announcement in the state parliament in Düsseldorf.

The interior minister also cautioned against speculation about the work of intelligence services, stating that every speculation, even if it's just hot air, endangers the work of these agencies. He emphasised that the work of intelligence services involves investigative work, sources, and informants.

No tips were received from foreign intelligence services regarding the arrest of the suspect, as confirmed by the interior minister. However, the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) did receive clues for tracking the terrorism suspect from foreign intelligence services.

The confession video published on the internet is currently being analysed by specialists from the NRW Interior Ministry. Meanwhile, no further details can be provided, according to Herbert Reul.

A notable find in the investigation is the knife found in a waste container in Solingen's inner city, which is suspected to be the murder weapon. The Federal Prosecutor General has jurisdiction in this case.

The interior minister stressed the importance of maintaining a calm and informed public, urging everyone to avoid spreading unverified information and to rely on official sources for updates. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be shared as they become available.
