Suspect taken into custody near Israeli embassy in Belgium, accompanied by incendiary device, according to Israeli Foreign Ministry communication
In a series of developments, two suspects have been arrested in Europe in connection with separate incidents involving Israeli embassies.
On Friday night, Belgian police arrested a suspect outside the Israeli embassy in Brussels. The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed the arrest, stating that all embassy staff are safe. However, Belgian authorities have yet to confirm the arrest or provide details about the intentions of the suspect. It is known that the suspect is linked to the organization Hamas. It is not yet clear if the suspect was planning a similar attack to the one that occurred in Berlin in February.
In February, a suspect was arrested in Berlin who was thought to be planning a "politically motivated" attack on the Israeli embassy there. The suspect was reportedly in possession of a Molotov cocktail. No connection has been established between the suspect in Belgium and the suspect in Germany.
Meanwhile, German prosecutors announced terrorism charges against a suspect in August. The suspect was planning to join the so-called Islamic State (IS) group in Pakistan.
In a separate incident, a suspicious package was sent to the Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen in July. No further details have been given about the package, and Belgian police have not provided any information regarding this incident.
It is worth noting that there have been no missile strikes reported near the EU embassy in Tel Aviv, and the Israeli Foreign Ministry has not provided any updates regarding the incident in Brussels since stating that all embassy staff are safe.
As the situation develops, more details are expected to emerge about these incidents and any potential connections between them. The safety and security of diplomatic personnel and facilities remain a top priority for the international community.
