Synthetic Grass Surface and Hoops Court Installation
The city of Nordhorn, in collaboration with VfL Weiße Elf Nordhorn, has completed a significant redesign of the sports surfaces in the Blumensiedlung area. This project, part of the Blumensiedlung urban renewal project, has seen the transformation of the facility, now boasting a new standard grass field, a modern small pitch with artificial turf, and a 3x3 basketball court.
The urban renewal team, consisting of re.urban and urbanorbit, was involved in the project, overseeing its development. The successful design of the basketball court was the work of the planning office ps+ from Osnabrück.
The total costs of the basketball court measure amounted to around 1.35 million euros. Two-thirds of this were financed via the Urban Renewal funding program, with the city of Nordhorn contributing an own share of 50,000 euros. The eligibility for funding of the basketball court measure was confirmed in the update of the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK).
Besides the district Nordhorn itself and the sports club VfL Weiße Elf Nordhorn, the participating entities in financing the project to optimise sports facilities in the Blumensiedlung district of Nordhorn included the city of Nordhorn and the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sports.
The artificial turf infill for the small pitch is made of sand to reduce the release of microplastics, a thoughtful addition to the eco-friendly design of the facility. The sports surfaces have been adapted to the current needs of the club, ensuring they remain fit for purpose for years to come.
Werner Lüske from Haselünne was responsible for the timely implementation of the basketball court, ensuring that the project was completed on schedule. Fachbereich 6 provided technical support for the basketball court project.
The redesigned sports facility was officially inaugurated on June 18, 2025. The basketball court is now publicly accessible and independent of the sports field for public use, providing a new space for sports enthusiasts in the community.
This modern sports facility is a testament to the city's commitment to improving its infrastructure and fostering a sense of community through sports. The Blumensiedlung urban renewal project continues to make a positive impact on the city of Nordhorn.
