Tactical pause by Israeli military excluded from affecting Gaza City operations
The ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to escalate, with the Israeli military announcing the end of the daily humanitarian pause for the city and the intensification of military operations against terrorist organizations. This decision, made by Israeli Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir on September 3, 2025, also includes the beginning of a ground offensive and the call-up of about 60,000 reservists for early September.
The Israeli military's actions are aimed at protecting the state of Israel, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated that the war will not end until Hamas is fully disarmed. The war's end condition, as stated by Netanyahu, has remained unchanged.
However, the move has intensified both domestic and international criticism, with the domestic and international community continuing to criticise Israel's actions in Gaza. The stalled ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Doha do not seem to be leading to a resolution of the Gaza war.
Indirect ceasefire talks between the two parties have stalled, and no breakthrough in the ceasefire negotiations is in sight. The Israeli military's actions in Gaza are still aimed at protecting the state of Israel, but the lack of progress in the negotiations raises concerns about the future of the conflict.
Despite the escalation, the Israeli military continues to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza. Jordan and the United Arab Emirates airdropped supplies during the daily halt, and the Israeli military has pledged to continue supporting these efforts. However, no new humanitarian pause for Gaza City has been announced.
The Israeli security cabinet approved the expansion of operations and control of Gaza City, with the Israeli military continuing offensive operations against terrorist organizations in the region. The intensification of the military campaign has raised concerns about the safety and wellbeing of civilians in Gaza, with Gaza City described as a "dangerous combat zone" by the Israeli military.
As the conflict continues, the international community will be watching closely to see how the situation develops. The stalled ceasefire negotiations and the lack of progress towards a resolution of the Gaza war raise concerns about the future of the region and the safety of its people.
