Taxi unions in France plan to mobilize at airports, railway stations, and petrol terminals starting 5th September, in protest against rising healthcare tariffs.
Taxi Drivers Protest Government Inaction on Regulation and Health Transport Tariffs
In a bold move, Rachid Boudjema, president of the National Union of Taxi Drivers, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the government's lack of action in regulating competition with VTC platforms and reversing decisions concerning the transport of sick people.
Boudjema claims that the government has not listened to the proposals made by the profession and has failed to take necessary steps to indemnify the taxi industry. This has led to a situation where new measures will force taxi professionals to select and arbitrate on the transports they will carry out.
The taxi profession is now saying "enough" and is ready to take measures, including potentially blocking the country, in the hope of resuming dialogue and having an honest debate. However, as of mid-September, there are no relevant search results indicating that taxi drivers are mobilizing in specific regions or locations to protest against health transport tariffs.
The source of contention is the new convention published in the Official Journal in August. This convention changes the rules for health insurance coverage of patient transport by taxis, with these changes set to apply from October. The aim of the new convention is to reduce the increasing costs of patient transport by taxis.
Boudjema emphasizes that the government must take commitments to indemnify the taxi profession, as the new measures could have a significant impact on their livelihoods. The future of the taxi industry in the face of growing competition and changing regulations remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the taxi drivers are not backing down from their fight for fair treatment.
