Teacher in Duisburg remains absent from work for 16 years: fresh insights disclosed

A teacher at a vocational college in Wesel, who has been on sick leave for 16 years due to psychological problems, is facing potential disciplinary action. The teacher, whose identity remains undisclosed, has reportedly been working as a healer, yoga instructor, and entrepreneur during her sick leave, according to various reports.

The teacher initially resisted a medical examination ordered by the state in court, leading to a defeat. It wasn't until 2024, when a new caseworker became aware of the case, that the teacher was finally examined.

Ralf Delgmann, a labor law specialist, has stated that if the teacher did indeed work as a healer, it would be a breach of civil service rules. This potential breach could speak for the possibility that the teacher may not have been ill at all during her extended leave.

The teacher has reportedly received her full salary, ranging between 5,051 and 6,174 euros per month, throughout these years. If the teacher has high ongoing expenses, her salary cannot be significantly reduced. However, once disciplinary proceedings have begun, references are reduced by half, if the financial circumstances allow it.

The teacher filed a lawsuit against the state at the Düsseldorf Administrative Court. The Minister of Education, Dorothee Feller, has called for the regional government to take all necessary steps to clarify the case. The regional government has since initiated investigations with the aim of initiating disciplinary proceedings.

The case has become a serious problem within the regional government. If the teacher is found to have breached civil service rules, disciplinary proceedings with the aim of dismissing her from the civil service could ensue. These proceedings could take three to four years to complete.

In a surprising turn of events, the teacher was recently awarded an entrepreneur prize for a special hand cream she reportedly developed. The video titled "Teacher on Sick Leave for 16 Years Must Finally See the Medical Officer" has gained significant attention, shedding light on this complex and intriguing case.

This article does not aim to pass judgment but to present the facts as they stand. The teacher's case is currently under investigation, and the outcome remains to be seen.
