Telkom Foundation Celebrates Graduation of 115 Mpumalanga Learners in Coding & Robotics Programme

The Telkom Foundation recently celebrated the successful completion of its Coding & Robotics Programme by 115 learners from Matsulu Secondary School and KaBokweni Secondary School in Mpumalanga. The event, which took place at the Ermelo Inn, marked the end of Youth Month, themed 'Skills for a changing world - Empowering youth for meaningful economic participation'.

The Telkom Foundation's programme, launched in 2022, is part of its ongoing commitment to equip young people with the digital literacy skills necessary for employment in the new digital environment. The programme, certified by IBM and IC3, focuses on integrating coding and robotics into the school curriculum to prepare future generations for technology and AI.

The Telkom Foundation's initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by ensuring quality education aligned with 21st century skills for all students, regardless of socio-economic status. In line with this commitment, the Foundation plans to upgrade facilities at the two schools to establish custom-built coding and robotics laboratories.

The three-year programme, rolled out during school holidays, includes modules on technical, business, and soft skills. The Foundation also intends to upskill teachers to incorporate coding and robotics into their everyday curriculum, further fostering inclusivity by providing access to quality education.

Vilakazi, from the Telkom Foundation, congratulated the learners on their graduation and expressed anticipation for more students to participate in the programme. He emphasised the importance of the programme in preparing young people for meaningful economic participation in a rapidly changing world.

The Telkom Foundation's Coding & Robotics Programme is just one of the ways the organisation is working towards a future where every young person has the opportunity to thrive in the digital age.
