In the early hours of today, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck Segamat, Johor, causing tremors to be felt in nearby regions such as Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, and southern Pahang. However, Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) has confirmed that all pipeline infrastructure and facilities within the affected region remain secure and operational.

Upon receiving notification of the tremor, PGB's technical and regional teams immediately implemented standard safety protocols for such events across the southern region. The company is maintaining active communication with the relevant local authorities and the Malaysian Meteorological Department for ongoing updates.

Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi contacted the Segamat district officer, who confirmed no casualties or property damage have been reported so far. PGB's live monitoring through their supervisory control and data acquisition (Scada) system also confirms that pressure levels and operational parameters remain stable.

Checks were carried out at the Segamat Compressor Station, Segamat Control Station, and along the relevant pipeline right-of-way, and no abnormalities or disruptions were detected. The Johor government has advised the public to stay away from unsafe structures and remain alert to instructions from the authorities following the weak earthquake.

PGB prioritizes the safety of the public and its operations, and is carrying out close surveillance, ready to respond if conditions change. The name of the Segamat district officer contacted by Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi after the earthquake is not publicly available.

As the situation continues to be monitored closely, the public is encouraged to stay informed and follow the instructions of local authorities for their safety.
