On Monday, September 8, 2025, an intense storm hit the Southern Periphery of Guadalajara, causing chaos and flooding in several colonies, including El Mante, Santa María Tequepexpan, San Sebastianito, Toluquilla, and Villafontana.

The storm, which began around 6:00 PM, turned several city streets into rivers. Photos and videos of the incident circulated on platforms like Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook, with one viral image showing two youngsters using a kayak as a means of transportation on Avenida López Mateos, a busy street in the metropolis.

The Seco Creek overflowed, causing damage on Avenida 8 de Julio and several stretches of the Southern Periphery. The water level in the roundabouts of El Mante reached up to half a meter in height, leaving drivers stranded and forcing the closure of circulation in various points.

In response to the storm, Luis Enrique Mederos, director of Tlaquepaque's Fire Department, deployed brigades to assist stranded people and check affected homes. Civil Protection and Firefighters worked throughout the night to drain flooded zones and remove fallen trees.

While the situation was dire, some viewed the youngsters' action as a source of humor, lightening the chaos of the city. The viral image of the two youngsters navigating in a kayak on López Mateos received widespread attention, with users on social media joking about needing a life jacket to circulate in the city.

For others, the image served as a reminder of the annual floods affecting Guadalajara. Officials are attending to people who were left stranded due to the storm, and efforts are being made to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, other relevant topics were making headlines. Fuel theft, DEA, Israel Vallarta, and Hernán Bermúdez were among the topics of discussion. Arsenal and protected fauna were discovered in a property allegedly linked to "El Mamado," a key figure of La Barredora in Tabasco.

'La Mananera' of Sheinbaum was a relevant topic on Tuesday, September 9, while Frida Muñoz, ex-daughter-in-law of 'El Chapo' Guzmán, reacted to the march for peace in Culiacán.

As the city recovers from the storm, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
