In a significant development for the rural town of Bösdorf, residents and visitors can now enjoy improved mobile network coverage as part of O2 Telefónica's ongoing expansion in Saxony-Anhalt.

O2 Telefónica, a leading full-service provider of telecommunications services for private and business customers, has upgraded the mobile communications site in Bösdorf, a district of Oebisfelde-Weferlingen. This upgrade marks the addition of 5G technology, enabling locals, visitors, and passing traffic to surf mobile, use digital services, and share concerns without issues.

With this new 5G connection, O2 Telefónica strengthens its position as a provider of a stable and fast connection in the 5G network. Since the beginning of the year, the company has upgraded over 1,000 mobile communications sites with 5G, reaching around 98 percent of the population with the modern mobile communications standard.

Mallik Rao, Technical and Business Customer Board Member of O2 Telefónica, emphasised the importance of this step in strengthening the digital infrastructure in the region. "The commissioning of the new mast in Bösdorf is a significant milestone in our mission to provide superior connectivity to all," he said.

The company, majority-owned by the Spanish telecommunications group Telefónica S.A., headquartered in Madrid, one of the world's largest telecommunications companies, generated sales of 8.5 billion euros in the fiscal year 2024, with around 7,800 employees. Its portfolio includes classic telephone and internet connections, as well as innovative digital services in the areas of the Internet of Things and data analysis.

The region of Bösdorf, located in the Magdeburg Börde, is known for its rural tranquility and Protestant church. It offers walks, bike tours in nature, and provides a foothold for some businesses. The new 5G connection in Bösdorf is expected to enhance the network experience for residents and visitors alike.

In addition to Bösdorf, O2 Telefónica has recently expanded its network in Saxony-Anhalt, with the commissioning of a 5G mobile network site in Wolmirstedt in August 2025. As the leading mobile network operator in the consumer market and in the market for innovative partner offers, O2 Telefónica continues to grow strongly in the solutions business for business customers.

The company cares for 34.7 million mobile phone connections (as of June 30, 2025, excluding connections from third-party network operators). In the fixed network, O2 Telefónica offers its customers leading technological diversity and geographical availability in Germany.

This expansion of O2 Telefónica's network in Saxony-Anhalt is a testament to the company's commitment to providing superior connectivity to rural areas, enhancing the digital infrastructure, and contributing to the region's economic growth and development.
