Sabalenka Retains US Open Title, Ends Grand Slam Final Losing Streak

In a dominant display of tennis, Aryna Sabalenka claimed her second consecutive US Open title on September 6, 2023. The Belarusian player defeated Amanda Anisimova in the final with a score of 6-3, 7-6, ending her losing streak in Grand Slam finals that began in 2025.

The match, which lasted for 1 hour and 34 minutes, saw Sabalenka employing her trademark aggressive play and consistency. She dropped only one set throughout the tournament, in the semis against Jessica Pegula. In the final, Sabalenka faced a break point at 5-4, 30-30 in the second set but managed to hold her serve and win the deciding game 6-1.

Anisimova, who reached her second consecutive Grand Slam final, briefly went up a break in the first set but was unable to maintain her lead. The American player suffered another defeat in a Grand Slam final, two months after her loss at Wimbledon where she was drubbed 6-0, 6-0 by Iga Swiatek.

Sabalenka's victory marks her fourth Grand Slam title and her second of the year. She previously won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024. Interestingly, Anisimova had previously beaten Sabalenka at Wimbledon semis earlier in the year.

Sabalenka's back-to-back US Open titles make her the first player since Serena Williams to achieve this feat. However, Sabalenka's path to the French Open title in 2025 remains unclear as the search results do not mention who defeated her in that match. She did lose the final of the French Open 2025; however, more details about that match are yet to be uncovered.

Despite her recent success, Sabalenka has had a mixed record in Grand Slam finals. In 2025, she lost the final of the Australian Open to Madison Keys and the Roland-Garros final to Coco Gauff. However, with her victory at the US Open, Sabalenka has shown that she is a force to be reckoned with in the world of tennis.

Anisimova, on the other hand, will likely reflect on her performance in the final and look to bounce back in future tournaments. With her talent and determination, it is certain that we will see more of her in the Grand Slam finals in the future.
