Tesla Experiences another Major Vehicle Recall

In a recent development, Tesla has announced a recall of nearly 300 Model Y and Model 3 vehicles in Australia. This recall is due to a potential loss of power steering, a concern that echoes a similar recall in the United States in 2022 involving over 1.1 million Teslas.

The 2022 recall, which affected Model 3 and Model S units, was related to an automatic window safety issue. This latest recall marks the second major recall of the year for Tesla in Australia, following a series of recalls since 2021.

The Australian Department of Transport has issued the recall for 7,301 Tesla Model Y SUVs. Interestingly, most of the recalls since 2021 have stemmed from software glitches rather than hardware defects. This underscores the growing importance and complexity of digital systems in modern vehicles.

The recall affects cars that are not running software version 2025.26.6 or newer. Owners of affected vehicles will receive notifications for an over-the-air (OTA) software update. Since 2021, Tesla has issued 17 recalls in Australia, but this latest recall does not affect cars running software version 2025.26.6 or newer.

The increasing number of recalls serves as a reminder of the intricate nature of digital systems in contemporary automobiles. Tesla continues to address these issues to ensure the safety and reliability of its vehicles.
