Tesla grants Supercharger network access to Porsche and Audi in North America
Porsche and Audi have announced that their 2024 and 2025 electric vehicle (EV) models, including the Macan EV and the Taycan, will have access to Tesla's Supercharger network starting from the end of this year.
Porsche's initial charging sessions will require the use of the Tesla mobile app. However, a more seamless experience via the My Porsche app is planned for the future. Audi, on the other hand, will initially activate charging sessions through the Tesla app, with integration into the myAudi app and navigation coming in future updates.
The navigation software of Porsche's 2026 Taycan and Macan EVs will be upgraded to include Supercharger locations. Owners of 2025 Taycans and all existing Macan Electrics can reserve a complimentary adapter via the My Porsche app. Audi, meanwhile, will offer UL2252-certified NACS to CCS adapters as a port-installed accessory on most new 2025 e-tron models, with the adapter set to be standard equipment on new e-tron purchases starting September 2025.
For customers with 2024 or older Taycans, the adapter can be purchased for $250 in Canada or $185 in the U.S. Availability and pricing for Audi's NACS DC adapter for existing e-tron owners will be announced at a later date.
Porsche will use NACS DC adapters for compatibility with Tesla's network. Audi, on the other hand, is yet to announce the type of adapter they will use.
It's important to note that the Q4 e-tron is currently excluded from the adapter compatibility, with updates on its compatibility expected in the future. The compatibility of earlier Taycan variants, as well as BMW, Toyota, and Subaru regarding the timing of their Supercharger access or first plugs, have not been announced yet.
This access to Tesla's Supercharger network in North America will start on September 9, 2022, in a "soft launch" phase using the Tesla app. Charging through their own apps and Plug-and-Charge functionality is expected to be available in the coming months.
Other brands set to follow soon include BMW, Toyota, Volkswagen, Audi, and Subaru. Brands such as Ford, GM, Rivian, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Volvo, Lucid, Polestar, Genesis, Honda, Acura, and Jaguar Land Rover already support Tesla's charging standard.
All navigation software updates will be free of charge. This move is expected to make EV charging more convenient for owners of these brands, as they will be able to use a widely available and rapidly growing charging network.
