Tesla Launches Model Y Electric SUV in India

Tesla, the American electric vehicle manufacturer, has officially launched its Model Y SUV in India. The vehicle is priced between ₹59.89 lakh and ₹67.89 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Model Y, known for its sleek design and cutting-edge technology, is now available in two variants: Standard RWD and Long Range RWD. The Standard RWD variant is expected to be delivered in Q3 2025, while the Long Range RWD variant will be available in Q4 2025.

The Standard RWD variant is priced at ₹59.89 lakh, with an estimated range of approximately 450 km. On the other hand, the Long Range RWD variant is priced at ₹67.89 lakh, offering an estimated range of around 550 km.

The Model Y comes with a 4-year or 80,000 km warranty, and the battery and drive unit have an 8-year or 192,000 km warranty.

One of the standout features of the Model Y is the Full Self-Driving (FSD) Capability, an optional add-on priced at ₹6 lakh. However, due to pending approvals in India, the FSD capabilities of the Model Y are currently limited. As of September 2025, there is no publicly available information or updates regarding the regulatory authority in India approving Tesla's FSD capabilities.

Customers can reserve a Model Y by paying a refundable booking amount of ₹22,220. After booking, a confirmation payment of ₹3 lakh is due within 7 days. Additional premium colors or add-ons can increase the cost by up to ₹1.85 lakh. Some popular color options include Pearl White/Diamond Black (additional ₹95,000), Glacier Blue (additional ₹1.25 lakh), Quicksilver (additional ₹1.85 lakh), and Ultra-Red (additional ₹1.85 lakh).

The Model Y's interior includes a Black & White dual-tone option for an additional ₹95,000. Establishing a charging infrastructure is crucial for long-distance travel with the Model Y.

In India's premium EV space, the Model Y competes with the Kia EV6 (₹65.97 lakh), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (₹46.05 lakh), BYD Sealion 7 (₹48.90- ₹54.90 lakh), and Volvo EX40/EC40 (₹50.10)/ (₹59 lakh).

With the launch of the Model Y, Tesla continues to expand its presence in the Indian market, offering consumers a new electric vehicle option in the premium segment.
