Tesla Officially Introduces Model Y in China Market, First Deliveries Scheduled for September
Tesla Introduces Model Y Long Range: A New Era of Electric SUV
Tesla has unveiled a new variant of its best-selling electric SUV, the Model Y, dubbed the Model Y Long Range (Model Y L). This extended version, set to begin deliveries in China in September, promises a host of exciting features and improvements.
The Model Y L is powered by an 82 kWh LG NMC battery pack and a dual-motor All-Wheel Drive setup. This setup, coupled with Tesla's latest second-generation suspension system with continuous variable damping, promises a smoother ride over diverse road conditions.
One of the standout features of the Model Y L is its extended range. Tesla estimates a CLTC range of 527 miles (848km), while on the EPA cycle, the estimated range is about 327 miles (526km). This extended range is made possible by the Model Y L's 250 kW peak Supercharging support, allowing for rapid charging on Tesla's growing China Supercharger network.
The interior of the Model Y L boasts new design elements, including a full black headliner, a silver-plated glass roof, and upgraded aluminum trim throughout the cabin. The third row, designed to accommodate more adult passengers, now features dedicated vents, heated seating, and cupholders.
The Model Y L also introduces air-cooled wireless phone chargers, a first for Tesla. These chargers, with small vents under the charging pads blowing cool air onto smartphones, aim to prevent overheating. The left charger now supports up to 50W speeds, a significant upgrade from the previous Model Y's 30W.
The Model Y L's seating has also been upgraded. The driver and front passenger seats are now equipped with redesigned ventilated seats, offering adjustable under-thigh support and headrests. The second row comes with powered captain's chairs, ventilated and heated with electric powered armrests.
Rear passengers will also enjoy an 8-inch display for climate and media control. The Model Y L provides up to 2,539 liters (89.6 cubic feet) of cargo capacity when the second and third rows are folded flat.
The Model Y L is expected to be available internationally, although the timeline is uncertain. However, it is confirmed that production for the United States will not begin until the end of 2026. Despite this, China is set to be the initial market where the Model Y L is launched and delivered, starting in September 2025.
The Model Y L accelerates from 0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds, making it a formidable competitor in the electric SUV market. With its extended range, improved features, and smoother ride, the Model Y L is poised to redefine the electric SUV experience.
