Tesla Dominates Turkey's EV Market in August

In a remarkable turn of events, Tesla has taken the second position in Turkey's overall auto market, surpassing household names like Fiat, Volkswagen, Toyota, and Hyundai, in August 2025. The electric vehicle (EV) giant sold an impressive 8,730 Model Y units, marking an 86% increase over July.

The growth in Turkey's EV market is attributed to both government incentives and a shift in consumer preferences towards electric vehicles. Tesla, with its strategic approach, has capitalised on this trend, making significant inroads into the market.

The company's strategy in Turkey and Canada is aimed at qualifying their base models for incentives, which in turn benefits other trims as well. In Turkey, the Model Y, Tesla's most popular vehicle, is taxed at the lowest bracket under the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) system. To qualify for this bracket, Tesla software locked the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) to 160kW of power, providing cost advantages over other vehicles.

This tactic, similar to what Tesla did in Canada to get the base Model 3 to qualify for the $5,000 federal incentive, has given the Model Y a significant edge over combustion engine rivals and even some competing EVs in the Turkish market. As a result, Tesla captured nearly half of Turkey's EV market in August.

The demand for battery-powered vehicles in Turkey is growing rapidly. The EV market in the country has grown from 8% of total auto sales last year to approximately 20% this summer. Tesla has delivered approximately 26,000 cars from January to August, four times more than the same period last year, demonstrating the company's success in the market.

It's worth noting that the Model Y is the only Tesla model officially sold in Turkey. Renault is the only auto brand that sold more cars than Tesla in August in Turkey, underscoring the strong competition in the market.

The growth in Turkey's EV market is a positive sign for the future of clean energy transportation in the country. With Tesla leading the charge, it's clear that electric vehicles are becoming an increasingly popular choice for Turkish consumers.
