Tesla's Autopilot (Overseen) Impresses Critics in Australia and New Zealand

Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) has made a splash in Australia and New Zealand, with local reviews praising its performance on public roads.

The Australian car review outlet, Chasing Cars, tested the system and concluded that it was "better than probably 60% of the drivers on Australian roads." The Kiwi EV review channel, Ecotricity NZ, shared their first drive of the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) in New Zealand, where it also received positive feedback.

Ecotricity NZ praised Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) for confidently handling roundabouts, intersections, and lane merges with minimal driver input. They were impressed with its smoothness and composure in dense traffic, as it navigated Brisbane's inner-city streets, motorways, and complex interchanges for over an hour with little intervention required.

The Tesla car smoothly maneuvered through Brisbane's streets, demonstrating its capability to handle the city's busy roads. Occasional quirks, like hesitation in lane selection or inconsistent signaling, were noted in Ecotricity NZ's review, but these were minor issues in the grand scheme of things.

Mainstream outlets and EV reviewers have had their first hands-on time with Tesla's advanced driver-assistance system on public roads. Australian journalist's review of the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) was even featured on Channel 7's Sunrise breakfast show, where it was described as "mind-blowing."

Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, has teased that version 14 of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) may begin rolling out as early as September. He claims that this update will be two to three times safer and better than human drivers. Musk is the author or lead figure behind Tesla's Full Self-Driving version 14 (FSD v14), which was announced to launch around September 2025.

Version 14 of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) represents Tesla's most ambitious step toward autonomy yet. Musk has stated that this update will be a significant leap forward in the development of autonomous driving technology.
