Tesla's low-power mode: A description of the power-saving feature in Tesla vehicles.
In an effort to enhance the efficiency of its electric vehicles, Tesla has announced the development of a new energy-saving feature - the "Low Power Mode". This feature, which is part of Tesla's ongoing software feature development process, will be introduced with the upcoming Software Update 2025.32.
The Low Power Mode offers users more control over their car's energy consumption, allowing them to prioritize power saving when needed. This new update makes the Energy Saving Mode more flexible and practical, providing a beneficial solution for long-term parking scenarios, such as when a Tesla is left at the airport during a vacation.
The Energy Saving Mode focuses on reducing energy loss from various consumers drawing power from the battery. It does not throttle the motor to save energy, but instead aims to minimize idle energy consumption in electric cars when parked. Some functions that will be affected include phone chargers, USB ports, low-voltage power outlets, overheating protection, and pre-air conditioning for the interior.
Users can manually set the threshold for the Energy Saving Mode as low as 10%, allowing them to customize their energy saving preferences. It's important to note that the Energy Saving Mode does not affect the motor's performance while the car is parked.
The Low Power Mode can be accessed through the touchscreen menu or the Tesla app. To find it, navigate to "Vehicle", "Charging", and "Energy Saving Mode". The new Energy Saving Mode also offers more transparency, explaining more clearly what happens when it's turned on or off.
This update will be available for all Tesla models, including the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X, and the Cybertruck in the US. The previous similar functionality only turned off these consumers when the "Keep Accessories On" feature was enabled and the remaining battery capacity dropped below 20%.
With the new Energy Saving Mode, Tesla owners can enjoy increased comfort and range security, knowing they have more control over their car's energy consumption. This latest innovation from Tesla is yet another step towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
