Tesla's Supercharger station in Santa Monica resumes operations, now coupled with a vintage 50s diner and a cinema.
The Santa Monica Supercharger station, initially planned for a unique 1950s-themed design with a roller skate rink, rock & roll restaurant, and a 50's diner, is set for changes.
Tesla approved the construction of a V3 Supercharger station in Santa Monica back in March 2021, with the planning for the expansion starting in September. Construction began in November, but the station's reactivation was previously restricted by the Emergency Interim Zoning Ordinance.
The Emergency Interim Zoning Ordinance, which prohibited non-residential development in Santa Monica for at least 45 days, was initially applied to the Supercharger site by the Santa Monica City Council. However, the council's decision was later overturned, allowing the station's reactivation.
Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, confirmed the reactivation of the station. While the station's features may be less extravagant than initially planned, it is expected to still include unique features such as a 50's diner and movie clips from the 100 best films of all time.
The exact details of the changes to the Supercharger station's features are not yet clear, but it is expected to be a V3 station offering food options. The station's reactivation is eagerly anticipated, with the latest update suggesting that the Supercharger station in Santa Monica may still include unique features that will make it a standout addition to the city's landscape.
