The European Championship begins with Bayern's participation

THW Bayern to Support UEFA European Football Championship 2024

The Thüringer Hilfsdienst (THW), a German volunteer-based federal operational organisation, will be extensively deployed during the UEFA European Football Championship (UEFA Euro 2024) taking place from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The opening match will be held in Munich, Germany.

The THW's activities extend beyond Germany, and they will be in demand for the event by the federal government, the EU's civil protection mechanism, and UN organisations. Six matches will be played in Munich, with 20 local units from North and South Bavaria active on all matchdays.

The THW will provide specialist, technological, and experiential support during the tournament. Up to 70 ambulance vehicles with medical personnel will be on standby at a readiness area set up by the THW. Carrier teams, each consisting of four people, will be stationed in the Munich football arena for quick rescue of injured persons.

In addition to medical support, the THW will also take on logistical, catering, and specialist advisory tasks. The group supporting the International Police Coordination Center in North Rhine-Westphalia during the UEFA Euro 2024 is the THW's Safe City project team. Four THW specialist advisors from Bavaria and eleven members of the Virtual Operations Support Team (VOST) will support the IPCC on a 24/7 basis.
