The European Union significantly contributes to the evolution and growth of the European Union.
In a significant gathering, the Weimar Triangle - a trilateral partnership consisting of France, Poland, and Germany - is meeting in La Celle-Saint-Cloud. The aim of this meeting is to revitalise the Weimar Triangle format as a platform for close dialogue, as it strives to further develop its cooperation and prepare for a future with 30 members or more.
The Weimar Triangle, founded on August 28, 1991, by Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Roland Dumas, and Krzysztof Skubiszewski, embodies the spirit of European unity and cooperation. This partnership, launched on Goethe's birthday in Weimar, has been more important than ever in recent times, as it seeks to give political and civil society exchange new impetus and make Europe more united and capable of action.
The primary goal of the Weimar Triangle is to identify common interests for Europe's future and expand cross-border cooperation. This renewed commitment is particularly evident in the trio's dedication to supporting Ukraine, a unifying factor for the group. By strengthening Ukraine's security, the Weimar Triangle aims to contribute to the collective security of Europe.
The upcoming enlargements of the EU will also come with internal reforms, which the federal government is ready to advance together with its Weimar Triangle partners. The support of Ukraine, whether financial, military, humanitarian, or political, remains a top priority for the federal government.
This is the first meeting at the ministerial level since the inauguration of Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and his French counterpart Stéphane Séjourné. The meeting's primary focus is on security and defense policy in Europe, with Poland, Germany, and France standing by Ukraine's side in its defense struggle.
The Weimar Triangle is not only strengthening its political ties but also fostering the exchange and cohesion of its citizens. Sharing the deep conviction that European answers are the better answers, the Weimar Triangle is working towards a future where it can accommodate more members and act as a robust and effective force for good in Europe.
