The prospect of the Naumburg tramway's safety: details on timing and methods?
The historic tram in Naumburg, affectionately known as the "Wild Goose," is on the verge of securing a funding of 120,000 euros, as announced by the Burgenlandkreis. This news comes after months of discussions and negotiations.
According to County Commissioner Goetz Ulrich (CDU), the funds for the Naumburg tram are already available. The Landkreis and the city of Naumburg share the same view regarding the tram's preservation. Andreas Plehn, CEO of the operating company Eisenbahn Verkehrs Nachrichten (EVN), is involved in the negotiations.
Plehn has emphasised the need for a stable operation of the tram and will not sign any unsustainable contract. He has also expressed a desire for a higher funding amount, but accepts the 120,000 euros for the time being.
The Naumburg tram, which operates on 2.8 kilometers of track, currently employs eight staff members and has many volunteers. The historic tram, founded in 1892, is the smallest EVN in Germany.
The "Wild Goose" is not the only one who has shown support for saving this piece of history. The state capital of Magdeburg has also expressed its support.
If the contract is signed next week, as planned, the agreed-upon funds will be immediately released. However, Plehn wants to submit a draft with minor changes first before the signing. The specific identity of the person who will lead the contract signing for financing the historic tram in Naumburg with the Eisenbahn Verkehrs Nachrichten is yet to be revealed.
The city of Naumburg is also considering contributing to the costs of the historic tram. This move, if implemented, could ensure the tram's long-term sustainability.
The historic tram in Naumburg, with its rich history and cultural significance, continues to captivate the hearts of its community and beyond. The upcoming contract signing promises a new chapter in its journey, securing its place as a cherished part of Naumburg's heritage.
