Thief's personal papers get misplaced during shoplifting incident

In Bielefeld, a 40-year-old man found himself in a confrontation with authorities after attempting to steal goods from a local store on Große-Kurfürsten-Straße.

The incident occurred at 5:20 PM on a recent day. The man, who is a Moroccan citizen and a known drug addict, tried to leave the store through an unmanned checkout area without paying for 23 cans of energy drink and three packets of trail mix.

A store detective noticed the theft and approached the man outside the checkout area. A struggle ensued, and during the altercation, the man lost his jacket and backpack. The detective was able to initially hold the man, but he violently broke free and fled towards the main train station.

Police officers were called to the scene and found the man's personal documents inside the lost backpack. The stolen items, however, were not recovered.

The arrest of the perpetrator was handled by the Kripo Köln (Criminal Police of Cologne). The man was identified as a 40-year-old homeless man.
