Three individuals discovered deceased within a manhole following a toxic gas emission from the sewage system, according to an official report.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, three workers lost their lives in a tragic accident at a work site in Trinity County, Texas. The victims, two H2O Innovation employees and a contractor, were working on a sewage lift station when the incident occurred.
The thoughts and prayers of H2O Innovation are with the families and loved ones of the deceased workers. Frédéric Dugré, the president and CEO of H2O Innovation, issued a statement expressing the company's deepest condolences.
According to reports, the workers were found unconscious at the work site. One worker had gone into the manhole to stop sewage from backing into their work area, while another went to help the first worker who had fallen unconscious. Tragically, a third worker entered the manhole in an attempt to save the others, but all three succumbed to the effects of the toxic gas present at the scene.
The toxic gas detected was hydrogen sulfide, a highly dangerous and potentially lethal substance. The third worker's gas meter showed a reading of H2S, confirming the presence of hydrogen sulfide gas.
The Trinity County Sheriff's Office and other local officials are working with H2O Innovation to determine the events leading up to the accident. Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace stated that water levels had to be lowered underground so first responders could gain safe access to the bodies. The recovery of all three bodies occurred after 6:30 p.m.
Chief Deputy Jeremy Carroll of the Trinity County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the situation was not classified as a leak. Instead, it appears that the workers were exposed to the toxic gas while working in the manhole.
Safety and training are of great importance to H2O Innovation. The company is focused on providing support to the families of the employees and the rest of the team during this difficult time. The company is also collaborating with local officials to ensure that similar accidents are prevented in the future.
This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the risks that workers face every day. Our thoughts remain with the families and loved ones of the deceased workers, and we hope that they find comfort and strength during this difficult time.
