Three out of ten individuals express concern over potential job displacement because of artificial intelligence.
In a recent survey conducted by YouGov, Germans were asked about their concerns and expectations regarding artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. The survey involved 2,175 eligible voters and was carried out in mid-August.
The findings of the survey revealed that 34 percent of Germans are concerned about losing their job due to AI, while 62 percent are not. Interestingly, the survey did not find any significant differences in concern about losing a job due to AI based on gender, income level, or age. However, it was found that Germans living in cities are more likely to fear losing their job due to AI.
The survey also found that voters of the Greens and FDP express concern about losing their job due to AI less often than the average. On the other hand, those with lower levels of education are more likely to fear that their work could be fully or partially taken over by AI in the future.
The survey did not reveal significant differences between supporters of various parties in the Bundestag, except that voters of AfD, BSW, or Left tend to be more concerned about losing their job due to AI.
When it comes to the impact of AI on employment, the survey found that approximately 27 percent of companies in Germany expect AI to lead to job cuts in the next five years. Contrastingly, around 5 percent of companies in Germany expect additional jobs due to AI. Two-thirds of companies in Germany do not expect any changes due to AI.
The development of AI models has made significant progress since the US company Open AI published ChatGPT in November 2022. Improved abilities have been seen in AI models in logic, efficiency, scalability, and the simultaneous processing of text, images, audio, video, and other formats.
Questions of security and data protection are now being addressed in AI development in Europe. As AI continues to evolve and become more integrated into our daily lives, it is crucial that these issues are addressed to ensure the safety and privacy of individuals.
The company that released the first language AI model named ChatGPT in November 2022 is OpenAI. The company's development of AI models has contributed to the rapid advancements seen in the field.
In conclusion, while the survey found that a significant portion of Germans are concerned about losing their job due to AI, the majority are not. The survey also revealed that the impact of AI on employment in Germany is varied, with some companies expecting job cuts while others expect additional jobs. As AI continues to develop, it is essential that concerns about security and data protection are addressed to ensure the safety and privacy of individuals.
