In an intriguing experiment, the burning rates of two identical wires were found to be non-uniform when lit from both ends. The wires, when burnt individually, took 60 minutes each to burn completely.

However, the scenario took an unexpected turn when the wires were lit from both ends simultaneously. To the surprise of the researchers, wire 1 burned faster, extinguishing after 30 minutes, while wire 2 continued to burn for 45 minutes. This finding contradicted the initial assumption of uniform burning rates for the wires.

The experiment, conducted using matchsticks, revealed that the burning rate of wire 1 was faster than half the total burning time (30 minutes), while wire 2's burning rate was slower (45 minutes). This indicated that the two halves of the wire burned at different rates, with one half burning in 10 minutes and the other in 50 minutes.

Interestingly, when the wires were lit from both sides, the total burn time was found to be 75 minutes, which is more than the combined initial burning time of the wires (120 minutes). This finding suggests that lighting wires from both ends can affect their burning rates, causing them to no longer burn at the same rate.

Moreover, the burning time of wire 2 (45 minutes) was found to be less than the initial burning time of an individual wire (60 minutes when lit from one end), while wire 1's burning time (30 minutes) was less than the initial burning time of an individual wire when lit from both ends.

The experiment serves as a reminder that the burning rates of materials are not always uniform, and external factors such as the direction of the flame can significantly impact the rate at which they burn. This research could have implications for various fields, including fire safety and forensic investigations.
