9th and 10th Region Tennis Stars Qualify for State Tournament

The 9th and 10th Regions of Kentucky are sending a strong contingent of tennis players to the state tournament, set to take place at the University of Kentucky from May 27-29.

In the boys' doubles category, Kalei Christensen and Blake Hussey, Will Tribble and Jacob Kramer, Griffen Derry and Collin McClure, and Louis Schlosser and Isaac Macke from the 9th Region have secured their spots. Meanwhile, Chris Wells and Cameron Wells will represent the 10th Region.

The Covington Catholic boys team, who won the inaugural boys state tournament last year, will be aiming for another victory. They recently clinched their spot in the season finale by defeating Beechwood, 3-0, in the 9th Region final.

In the girls' singles category, Kayla Johnson from Cooper emerged victorious in the 9th Region final, defeating Sadie Jones from Beechwood with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Johnson's success follows last season's less dramatic victory, which did not require a third-set tiebreaker. Rylee Ritter will represent the 10th Region in the girls' singles competition.

The 9th Region girls' doubles final was won by Avery Love, a junior, and Niveditha Salvaraju, a freshman, from Ryle. They defeated Cassidy Derry, a sophomore, and Isabella Norvell, a junior, from Dixie Heights with scores of 6-2, 6-1. Notre Dame secured their spot in the girls' doubles competition with a 3-1 victory in the region final.

The Covington Catholic boys and Notre Dame girls will represent the 9th Region in the state team tennis tournaments. Other individuals and pairs qualifying from the 9th Region include Alex Yeager, Shayaan Ahmad, Neel Reddy, and Naveeth Selveraju in the boys' singles, and Maggie Kute and Lyndsey Payne, and Isabella Mcelwee and Malia Christensen in the girls' doubles.

From the 8th Region, Finlay Mackay, Annika Derks, and Natalie Lukey will compete in the boys' singles and girls' doubles categories, respectively. Gabrielle Browning and Hope Dupin will represent the 8th Region in the girls' doubles competition.

The state tournament promises to be an exciting event, with these talented tennis players ready to showcase their skills.
