Today, apples are being picked in the moat surrounding Meining Castle
On Saturday, August 30, 2025, the city of Meiningen is inviting the public to a unique and delightful event - a free apple picking extravaganza in the castle moat.
From 10 am to dusk, visitors are welcome to pick ripe, delicious apples, with no charges involved. The city encourages everyone to join, making it an open event for all interested parties.
The apple picking activity is not an organised event by the city, but rather a generous offering by the local authorities. The organiser for this event is, in fact, the city of Meiningen itself.
Participants are asked to bring their own ladders, picking aids, and containers, as no equipment will be provided. Access to the apple trees is available via the former entrance of the castle tavern.
Visitors are reminded to pick the apples carefully to avoid damaging the trees. While the city does not provide any liability coverage for accidents, it's important to note that the apple picking activity is at the risk of the participants.
This event offers a fantastic opportunity to experience nature and enjoy regional produce. After filling your containers with apples, you're invited to use the castle moat for a small outing, preserving, or simply enjoying fresh fruit.
The castle moat has been the source of these delicious apples, and the city is excited to share this local treasure with the community. So, mark your calendars for August 30, 2025, and join the city of Meiningen for a day of apple picking fun!
