Tonight, the Danube island resounds with the vibrant young celebrities' performances
The Danube Island Festival, Europe's largest free outdoor festival, returns for its 42nd edition from June 20 to 22, 2025. This year's event, known as #dif25, is set to be a celebration of social cohesion, affordable and modern Vienna, and respectful interaction.
Barbara Novak, the DIF organiser and Vienna's Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) secretary, has stated that the festival is in the sign of solidarity, diversity, and equal opportunities. This year's festival will feature local up-and-coming talents, as demonstrated by the winners of the 15th Rock The Island Contest (RTIC).
The RTIC, held to select acts for the Danube Island Festival, received around 320 applications. The winners of this year's contest include Portrait of Tao, Lia Nell, Fraulein Peter, One Last Glance, Zweimann, Julia Steen, and The Schenkies. Each winner will receive a slot on the main stages of the Danube Island Festival and a fee of 1,500 euros.
Culture Councilor Veronica Kaup-Hasler explains that the RTIC is a platform for diversity, passion, and new musical voices at the Danube Island Festival. In addition, the second edition of RTIC4Kids was held to support red-white-red music newcomers.
Over the years, over 150 acts have taken the path through Rock The Island Contest, showcasing the importance and effectiveness of such platforms for local talents. Last year, over 1,000 acts performed at the festival, making it not only Europe's largest open-air festival with free admission, but also a mirror of the cultural vibrancy of the city.
The Danube Island Festival's motto for 2025 is "Your Island. Real Moments". By providing a high-caliber music, action, and fun program, the festival creates space for young musicians to be heard, gain stage experience, and take their first steps into the Austrian music scene.
