In the world of Formula 1, the Dutch Grand Prix has seen its fair share of drama, with both Alpine and Mercedes teams experiencing turbulence.

The Alpine team, led by Flavio Briatore, has acknowledged putting too much pressure on driver Oscar Piastri, following his early exit from the first free practice session due to an off-track incident in turn 8. Piastri's mistakes, according to Briatore, have brought more attention to his performance.

However, it's not just Piastri who's been under the spotlight. Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes' current driver, missed the braking point and got stuck in the gravel, ending the session after six laps. Despite this setback, Antonelli's W16 remained undamaged, allowing him to participate in FP2.

Toto Wolff, team principal of Mercedes, has stated that Antonelli is a long-term investment for the team. Yet, criticism of Antonelli has grown, with some voices suggesting that the pressure of the Mercedes cockpit is too great for the rookie.

The closely contested Formula 1 field this season is a factor in Piastri's performance, according to Vowles. Even the smallest error that costs a tenth of a second in Formula 1 can have significant consequences, he added. Piastri has not achieved a countable result in seven races with Alpine.

Meanwhile, Antonelli's struggles, including mistakes, crashes, and zero points, have continued since the Formula 1 summer break. Wolff admitted that the team has made mistakes in the past, including putting too much pressure on Antonelli.

Rumors of another seat swap persist for Piastri. Briatore believes that the team needs to understand what is going on with Piastri due to his youth. The second free practice session may be affected by rain, potentially limiting Antonelli's dry practice time before qualifying.

In a separate development, during the summer break, Steini analysed team duels in Formula 1 to determine who comes out on top in prestige duels. Wolff does not believe that Antonelli's performance can be compared to that of other rookies, such as Gabriel Bortoleto or Isack Hadjar.

Despite the challenges, both teams have shown resilience. Mercedes confirmed that both Antonelli and George Russell will continue as drivers for the 2026 season.

As the Formula 1 season continues, the focus remains on these two teams and their drivers, as they strive to navigate the pressures and challenges of the sport.
