Tough Sentencing: Hostel Administrator Given Life Imprisonment for Raping Deaf-Mute Girls in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

In a landmark ruling, the district and session court in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has sentenced hostel operator Ashwini Kumar Sharma to life imprisonment for raping deaf and mute girls. The victims, all hearing-impaired, were illegally kept and exploited at Sharma's residential hostel, Kritarth Boys Hostel, located at house number 172, Crystal Ideal City, Awadhpuri.

Ashwini Kumar Sharma, the accused, was also the operator of Kritarth Boys Hostel. He had a residence at the same address, which he operated as an illegal residential hostel. The victims were placed in the hostel for their further education, following arrangements made by the ITI Institute and the Social Justice Department.

The rape of the deaf and mute girls occurred at Kritarth Boys Hostel. During the 68-day sewing course, Sharma acted as the girls' guardian and got them admitted to a women's ITI institute. However, he used this position to exploit them, forcing them to clean, cook, and do household work.

Sharma also showed obscene and provocative photographs separately on his mobile phone to the girls, threatening to kill them if they told anyone. In October 2017, he further terrorised victim U by showing her obscene photographs and making lewd advances.

The victim, a hearing-impaired girl from a Scheduled Tribe, passed her 11th-class examination in 2016 from UmaviPalanbasa Ujjain, a school for hearing impaired run by the Social Justice Department. She was admitted to Government Gas Relief and Rehabilitation and Training Institute, Govindpura, Bhopal, for further education.

Superintendent Sandhya Sharma facilitated her admission with help from local Social Justice Department officials. However, the placement in Kritarth Boys Hostel, run by the very person who was later accused of heinous crimes, went unnoticed.

It is important to note that the search results do not provide information about the name of the company appointed as an advisor by the Madhya Pradesh financial authority. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for stricter oversight and protection of vulnerable sections of society.

This case underscores the importance of accountability and justice for all, regardless of their ability to communicate or defend themselves. The life imprisonment sentence handed down by the court is a step towards ensuring that such atrocities are not repeated in the future.
