Tour de Deutschland winner, Pogacar, criticizes race jury: "Poor organization"
Tadej Pogacar Criticizes Jury's Decision at Deutschland Tour
Tadej Pogacar, the four-time Tour de France champion, has expressed his frustration with the jury's decision at the Deutschland Tour. In a post on Instagram, the cycling star criticized the jury's work, calling it "poor... as usual."
The controversy arose during the third stage of the event in Kassel, Germany. Initially, Danny van Poppel was awarded victory, but he was later relegated to the end of the first group in the final sprint. The specific reason for this decision was not specified in the article from the German Press Agency (dpa).
Van Poppel was relegated for blocking the path of British rider Matthew Brennan. However, Florian Lipowitz, Van Poppel's teammate, was the clear winner of the stage. Van Poppel's victory was later taken away, with Søren Wærenskjold being declared the posthumous winner.
Pogacar, who is currently recovering from the exertions of the Tour de France, expressed his disapproval of the decision, stating that if riders were to be relegated, multiple riders could be relegated. He also referred to pictures as evidence in his criticism.
Despite the controversy, Pogacar's goal for this year remains to defend his World Championship title in Rwanda. He will return to competition in September with races in Canada.
The Deutschland Tour cycling event, which took place in Kassel, has seen its share of drama this year. With Pogacar's criticism and the reversal of Van Poppel's victory, it's clear that the race has been anything but dull.
