Tourism in Vietnam experiences a surge during the National Day holiday
Vietnam's Tourism Sector Thrives During National Day Holiday
The National Day holiday from August 30 - September 2 saw a significant surge in tourism across Vietnam, with several cities reporting impressive visitor numbers and revenue.
In Ha Noi, approximately 2.08 million visitors flocked to the city, triple the figure from 2024. The top source markets for international tourists were China, the Republic of Korea, India, the US, Japan, the UK, and Australia. The tourism revenue in Ha Noi was estimated at VNĐ4.5 trillion, up about 80% compared to 2024.
Hài Phòng exceeded 1 million tourist arrivals, up 8% from 2024, while HCM City served 1.45 million tourists during the holiday, a 15% increase compared to the same period last year. HCM City recorded around 300,000 overnight stays with an average hotel occupancy of 87%.
Quảng Ninh welcomed about 339,000 visitors, equivalent to 75% of the same period in 2024. The tourism revenue in the period was estimated at VNĐ932 billion, or 90% of last year's figure.
Đà Nẵng welcomed over 620,000 visitors, a 24% year-on-year increase, with international arrivals surging 49%. The city raked in over VNĐ2.2 trillion (US$83.37 million) in revenue, a 28% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
The surge in visitors contributed to the sector's post-pandemic recovery and growth. Vũ Quốc Trị, Secretary General of the Việt Nam Tourism Association, stated that the early and widespread promotion of the National Day holiday boosted tourist numbers, particularly domestic travelers. Domestic tours accounted for around 60% of total bookings at many travel agencies during the holiday.
Inner-city and historical tours boomed during the holiday, with many travel companies fully booked one to two months in advance. A notable event was the National Achievements Exhibition themed "80 years of Independence - Freedom - Happiness", which attracted nearly 1.2 million visitors in its first three days.
The surge in international visitors during the National Day holiday is a positive signal for Vietnam's tourism as it enters the peak inbound season in the fourth quarter. HCM City reported an estimated VNĐ4.14 trillion (US$157 million) in tourism revenue during the holiday.
This positive surge in tourism during the National Day holiday provides momentum for Vietnam's tourism sector to meet its 2025 targets in both visitor growth and revenue. The sector is poised for continued growth and success in the coming months.
