Traffic congestion alleviation on Giri-Gwagwalada Road according to FRSC reports
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been working tirelessly to clear a gridlock caused by protesting truck drivers on Gir-Gwagwalada Road. The blockade, which began on Wednesday and extended into Thursday, was triggered by an altercation involving one of the truck owners.
The FRSC, along with other security agencies, has been instrumental in restoring order on the highway. The trucks were eventually removed late on Wednesday night, following much persuasion. However, the delay in clearing the road had caused significant traffic congestion.
The FRSC boss, Mr Felix Theman, appealed to everyone to exercise restraint and patience during this time. He also disclosed this in an interview with the NAN on Thursday in Abuja. The incident had spilled over into the next morning.
To manage the situation, the FRSC created an alternative lane for smaller vehicles and buses to use, restricting movement on the single lane to these vehicles and buses to reduce tension in the area before reopening to larger trucks.
The FRSC, alongside other security agencies, mobilized its men from Gwagwalada, Zuba, and the outpost in Giri to ensure the road is made accessible to the public as soon as possible. The incident was an isolated one, and such acts are illegal, causing hardship to travelers.
Members of the public tried to appeal to the truck drivers that blocking the road does not solve their problems but only infringes on the fundamental rights of other Nigerians who have the freedom of movement. The protest was due to grievances related to road conditions and transportation regulations.
The FRSC is fully committed to ensuring this matter doesn't drag on for too long. Unfortunately, two trucks broke down on the same road after it was reopened, but no new facts about the broken-down trucks were mentioned in this paragraph.
The FRSC and other security services are on ground to ensure the road remains accessible to the public. Mr Theman reiterated that such acts are not only illegal but also cause unnecessary hardship to travelers. He urged everyone to adhere to the rules and regulations to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic on our highways.
