Traffic development in Solingen: Introducing a fresh roundabout on the Ittertal route

The Ittertalstraße/Haaner Straße roundabout in Solingen is undergoing a comprehensive rebuilding and enlargement, as announced by the City of Solingen's Department of Urban Development and Traffic Planning.

The project, which began in July, will see several significant changes to the roundabout. The first phase of the work involves the section between Haaner Straße and Ittertalstraße. The new road surface will be installed during the full closure of the roundabout, which is planned for a weekend towards the end of the project.

From July 30, only one lane will be open on both streets leading to the roundabout, with construction traffic lights regulating the flow of traffic. This partial closure is a prelude to the full closure, which is a crucial part of the ongoing project.

During the full closure, pedestrian islands for safe crossing will be built, and a tactile paving system will be installed. The installation of the new road surface will take place simultaneously, marking the final major work on the roundabout.

The roundabout will also receive new sidewalks and lighting, enhancing its safety and aesthetics. The work on the roundabout will continue in a clockwise manner after mid-September, with the project expected to be completed by the end of January.

It's worth noting that a central island that cannot be driven over will be created at the roundabout, further improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The full closure of the roundabout during the installation of the new road surface is planned to take place at the end of the project.

The City of Solingen encourages residents and commuters to plan their journeys accordingly, as the full closure of the roundabout may cause some inconvenience. However, the benefits of the renovation are expected to outweigh any temporary disruptions.
