Traffic flow on Brockweg/Kattenstrother Weg resumes after roundabout safety improvements
The city of Bielefeld has completed the reconstruction of the Brockweg/Kattenstrother Weg intersection, marking a significant step towards improving traffic safety and flow in the area. The roundabout will reopen to all road users on Friday, August 29, 2025.
The intersection's redevelopment was prompted by a high number of accidents at this location. The reconstruction was carried out to ensure more clarity, more safety, and free flow of traffic.
The sidewalk at the Brockweg/Kattenstrother Weg intersection is now designed as a raised curb with a green strip, providing an additional safety barrier from the roadway. Cyclists have safe areas to transition from the sidewalk and bike path to the road at the entrances of the roundabout.
The roadway in the roundabout has been narrowed to five meters, intended to encourage vehicles to reduce their speed and enter and exit more slowly. There are now four barrier-free pedestrian crossings at the intersection, facilitating safe crossing of the streets.
Bus service Line 206 will be able to pass through the roundabout starting from Friday. All road users are asked to be considerate of each other in the roundabout and pay close attention to the new traffic guidance.
The city asks all road users to take note of the changes and adjust their behaviour accordingly to ensure everyone's safety. The reconstruction was aimed at significantly improving traffic safety at the Brockweg/Kattenstrother Weg intersection.
The Brockweg/Kattenstrother Weg intersection's reconstruction was based on the recommendations of the accident commission. The project was completed on August 28, 2025, and the roundabout is now set to enhance the safety and efficiency of the intersection for all road users.
