Wuhletal Bridge Reopens in Berlin-Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Boosting Traffic and Industrial Connections

After four years of construction and a brief closure in 2019, the Wuhletal Bridge in Berlin-Marzahn-Hellersdorf has been reopened to traffic. The bridge, located on the Märkische Allee, serves as a vital connection between Federal Highway B 158, the A10 motorway, and the Berlin city area, playing a significant role in daily traffic and connecting numerous industrial areas in the district.

The construction period, which lasted from the end of 2021 to September 2025, was not without its challenges. There were several closures, and traffic was rerouted via temporary detours. The reopening of the Wuhletal Bridge symbolizes the reduction of the maintenance backlog for bridges in Berlin, with similar measures also underway in Marzahn-Hellersdorf.

The predecessor bridge, built in 1984, had to be completely closed in 2019 due to severe damage, particularly the prestressed concrete beams. Demolition began in early 2022. The replacement bridge, built in composite construction using steel girders and concrete, features a total area of 883 square meters.

The design of the new Wuhletal Bridge considers a potential tram line along the Wuhletalstraße, making the bridge flexible for future expansions in public transportation. The new bridge also includes separate 2.50-meter-wide cycle lanes and sidewalks on both sides, meeting the requirements of the Berlin Mobility Act and creating additional crossing opportunities for non-motorized traffic.

The construction costs amounted to approximately €13.2 million and were funded through the Joint Task "Improvement of Regional Economic Structure" (GRW) using federal and state funds. District Mayor Nadja Zivkovic expressed gratitude to all involved parties for their cooperation on the infrastructure project, stating that the bridge ensures both mobility and economic development in Marzahn-Hellersdorf.

The reopening of the Wuhletal Bridge provides direct relief for traffic in the northeast of the city and underscores the importance of continuous maintenance in Berlin's road network. The strengthened traffic and industrial connections in Marzahn-Hellersdorf will undoubtedly contribute to the district's growth and development.
