Tragic Child Murders: Mother to Be Institutionalized in a Mental Health Facility - Tragic Double Child Murder: Mental Health Evaluation Required for Mother
On a tragic Christmas Eve in 2024, two young children, aged six and seven, were found beaten to death and covered in blood in their beds in Rosenheim, Germany. The mother, a 39-year-old woman, was discovered lying beside her dead children.
The woman was tried by the Traunstein Regional Court in Germany and found guilty of killing her girl and boy with an axe. The verdict, however, is not yet legally binding.
The woman had been suffering from a paranoid delusional disorder, leading to her actions. She had delusional thoughts, including that her son was being abused at kindergarten and that they were threatened by a third world war.
Despite the horrific crime, the court ruled that the woman was not criminally responsible due to her mental condition. As a result, she has been indefinitely hospitalised in a psychiatric hospital. The initial accommodation is indefinite, and the court will regularly review her accommodation.
In her final statement, the defendant expressed shock over her actions and regret for the suffering she caused every day. She sobbed and said, "I'm sorry is not enough."
The woman's name has not been disclosed in publicly available sources. The court's decision allows for her indefinite psychiatric hospitalization, with the aim of ensuring her recovery and rehabilitation.
