Tragic road crash in Schwerte leaves three fatalities

On a fateful Sunday afternoon, September 7, 2025, a tragic accident took place in Schwerte, Germany. At around 2 PM, a car veered off the road on Rote-Haus-Straße, colliding with a tree and immediately catching fire.

The accident involved a Tesla, which was being operated by the driver who sadly lost control during an overtaking maneuver. The car was completely destroyed in the accident, and three individuals, including two children, tragically lost their lives.

Upon receiving the distress call, the police and emergency medical services swiftly responded to the scene. Rescue operations were supported by two rescue helicopters, and pastoral care was provided for the victims' families and rescue personnel.

The fire department fought valiantly to extinguish the burning car, but the electric vehicle proved challenging due to recurring flames. Despite a resident's brave attempt to put out the fire using a fire extinguisher, the flames could not be overcome. The fire department remained on the scene until 11 PM the previous day.

In addition to the burning Tesla, two other vehicles were unfortunately involved in the accident. A tree also fell as a result of the impact, temporarily blocking traffic.

The authorities in Unna are currently investigating the accident, with police spokespersons communicating details and stating that investigations are ongoing. The road has since been reopened.
