Train derails in Riekofen station
A train derailed near Riekofen on the railway line between Passau and Obertraubling on Monday evening due to a rail fracture. The train, carrying 25 passengers, briefly derailed but quickly returned to the tracks.
The train was later stopped and parked at Mangolding station, where it is currently being maintained. Initial findings suggest material fatigue as the cause of the rail break. The Bundespolizeiinspektion Waldmuenchen has initiated an investigation into a dangerous interference with rail traffic.
The fire department evacuated the train, but no evacuation was necessary. All 25 passengers remained unharmed, except for one person who was briefly treated by the emergency services for psychological issues. A Deutsche Bahn repair crew fixed the damaged spot, and passengers continued their journey to Regensburg Hauptbahnhof on a replacement train.
The exact cause of the incident and the details of the replacement transport are yet to be confirmed. Possible negligence is also being examined in the investigation. At 8:00 PM, the train driver took the damaged train to the Regensburg workshop.
A patrol from the Bundespolizeirevier Regensburg was on the scene, and the railway operations center reported the incident to the Bundespolizeiinspektion Waldmuenchen at 6:30 PM. The exact damage amount is still unclear.
The safety of passengers is always the top priority, and the railways will continue to work closely with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and to prevent such incidents in the future.
