Tram passengers viciously assaulted by a mob of 38 individuals
In an unexpected turn of events, a 38-year-old man was arrested on August 19th, following a disturbance on Cologne's Line 1 train at around 5:20 PM.
The incident, which unfolded later that afternoon at Heumarkt, saw the man allegedly attacking a 24-year-old passenger. According to reports, the man kicked the passenger in the face. Witnesses on the train, including passengers and the tram driver, promptly notified the police, and emergency services were called to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim temporarily unresponsive as a result of the attack. They quickly took the man into police custody at Heumarkt. However, it took several officers and the use of a taser to overpower the resisting man.
The suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs during the incident, is set to appear before a judge today. The judge presiding over the trial of the man's former partner at the Hildesheim Regional Court has not been named in the available sources. The trial concerns allegations of attempted murder and manslaughter related to the violent death of a 38-year-old woman in the Peine district.
No further details about the suspect or the victim have been released at this time. It is known, however, that a blood sample was taken from the man at the police station.
Regrettably, two police officers (27 and 28) sustained minor injuries during the incident. The victim was transported to a hospital following the incident and passengers on the train provided aid.
The incident is currently under investigation.
